Kurdish Culture Festival organized by the Wajda Film Centre, the Kurdish Studies Unit, and the Department of Iranian Studies at the Jagiellonian University. This year’s theme focuses on individuals outside the Kurdish community—particularly members of the Iranian and Turkish majorities—who have chosen solidarity, dialogue, and resistance against state oppression. The festival features documentary screenings, discussions with researchers and activists, a multimedia photography presentation by Shahrzad Arshadi, and a musical performance by Pervin Kaplan. Events are free to attend. The program includes: 17 April (Friday), 19:00: Screening of two documentaries by Shahrzad Arshadi: 'Dancing for Change' (50 min) about Kurdish women from Iran organizing resistance, and 'Dengbêj / The Storyteller' (35 min) about two women from Kurdistan. Followed by a discussion with Shahrzad Arshadi, Ebrahim Barzegar, and a musical performance by Pervin Kaplan. 18 April (Saturday), 17:00: Screening of 'Ismail / Our Ismail' (78 min) by Fatin Kanat and Önder İnce about İsmail Beşikçi, a Turkish sociologist imprisoned for his work on the Kurdish question. Followed by a discussion with Fatma Edemen, Cansu Yumuşak, Onur Yılmaz, and Cem Koç on science and art under authoritarian conditions in Turkey. 19 April (Sunday), 17:00: Screening of 'Blooming in the Desert' (30 min) by Benedetta Argentieri about women rebuilding Raqqa after the fall of ISIS, followed by a discussion with representatives of the Rojava/DAANES solidarity movement on the situation in the region.
