Dengbejî and Govend Festival

About this event

Dengbejî and Govend Festival in Shengal (Şengalê, Şengal, Shingal and شەنگال) brings together Dengbêjî and Govend as two expressions of cultural memory. Dengbêjî preserves stories, history, and emotions through voice and music, while Govend brings people together through movement and collective participation. Together, these two expressions testify to cultural identity. The festival connects Shingali cultural practitioners with invited artists and groups from different areas of Kurdistan Region, focusing on cultural exchange, intergenerational learning, and creating opportunities for young people to engage with living heritage.
