About this event

An energetic all-female Kurdish opera about freedom, inspired by the slogan "Jin, Jiyan, Azadî" (woman, life, freedom). The opera is sung in Sorani-Kurdish with surtitles in English and Dutch. Features Dutch-Kurdish singer-songwriter Naaz and composer Huba de Graaff. The performance is set in a kitchen that functions as a music studio, with an all-female cast performing on experimental electronics and kitchen equipment. The opera is based on a 1972 poem by Kurdish poet Tarza Jaff about women who dare to leave, take wings, and pay a price for doing so. The production is presented by Cultura Nova in collaboration with PLT.
