The Traveling Cinema

About this event

Documentary by Zîlan Hemo (Arabic language, 91 min, DCP). It follows Ismaîl Mamo, a young man from Kobanî, Syria, who returned from the Netherlands after studying acting at ArtEZ University of the Arts to launch Sînema Gerok, a project bringing cinema to remote villages that have long been deprived of this experience. The documentary covers the challenges he and his team faced organising the first film screenings in many villages. This screening includes a showing of Charlie Chaplin's 1916 short "Behind the Screen".
