About this event

Ian is a struggling actor with an unusual stopgap job: professional mourner. He works the local funeral circuit with his troupe, The Banshees, paid to cry by the hour and seemingly detached from the grief around him. When an encounter with a boy who has just lost his father puts his apathy to the test, a drunken fight leaves him out on the street, and the journey home reveals the truth of his own turmoil. A dark comedy set in the Northern Irish countryside, built on the Gaelic tradition of keening, the vocal lament for the dead. Premiered at the Venice International Film Festival in 2024.
